Hèrè jè Center, Mali, West Africa
The vision of the Hèrè jè Center is to stop the cycle of begging for begging girls and provide sustainable income generating activities. In the local Bambara language, "Hèrè jè" means "happiness group". The Hèrè jè Center offers skills training, health and nutrition, family planning, AIDs prevention and literacy skills. These skills lead to developing micro-entrepreneurs who can generate sustainable income for themselves and their families. The first 10 students in the pilot program graduate July 2006 and form two teams to start their own businesses with help from a micro-loan.
